Team to Play Murrayshall (Away) & Result
The Team that played Murrayshall at Murrayshall on Tuesday 26th of August was:
Ernie Wastell and Bob Greig
George Allan and George Dolby
Jim Ross and John Brand
Alistair Donaldson and Robb Kidd
David Dawson and Ian Scott
Ken MacLeod and Alan Christie
The match should have started at 10.00am but was delayed 15 minutes due to Murrayshall starter double booking the tee with hotel guests without advising the Murrayshall Seniors. The intention was in fact to knock us back almost an hour to 10.55 so we should consider ourselves lucky on that count. As it was one of our team who phoned the starter early in the morning was given the 10.55 tee off and turned up after the first two groups had already teed off with yours truly believing we were a man short.
The result was an extremely slow round and frayed tempers. The match itself was won by Murrayshall (5 - 1), reversing exactly the result at Strathmore earlier in the year.

Strathmore Golf Club seeks new Treasurer
Sheena Scott is standing down in October as Club Treasurer after several years in the post.
If you feel that you could do this job and have some spare time on your hands, which you are willing to give to the Club, get in touch with a committee member as soon as possible and express this interest.
The sooner a replacement is found the longer the handover from Sheena and the better for the club and the incoming Treasurer.
As the saying goes 'YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU', so if you feel that you can take on this responsibility please let us know

Having made the concession to play the under 70's from the white tees in this year's encounter with the Ladies of Strathmore to make their life easier I have to now inform our members that this proposal has been rejected by the ladies.
Not a problem for us, We will all be teeing off from the Yellows next Thursday without exception.

Edzell Away Day - Wednesday 20th August Results
The groupings and tee times for the Away Day were:-
10.00 Gordon Ewen; Ron Haynes; Garry Stewart
10.07 Norman Fenwick; Sandy McGibbon; David Dawson
10.15 John Menzies; David Robinson; Gerry Kennedy
10.22 Sandy Robertson; Ernie Wastell; Joe McGeoghegan
10.30 Bob Greig; Peter Tinker; Jack Duncan
10.37 Jim Ross; Mel Kidd; Rob Kidd
10.45 George Dolby; Jim Davidson; Jeff Lonsdale
10.52 Alan Christie; Jack Rough; Tony Sive
11.00 Peter Rainbird; Neil Colville; Eric Grey
11.07 Russell Peacock; Peter Barnett; Brian Ruffhead
With the weather forecast to be anything but dry from Mid Day onwards we were lucky to get most of the field in before the skies opened just after 2.30.
The course was in good condition but playing long as a result of the rain that had fallen overnight.
Sandy McGibbon continued his good run over the last month or so with 34 points and took the individual prize on a count back from Jim Ross. Look after the Mike Dower Bowl Sandy, it has to be returned, enjoy the Grouse.
In the team competition Sandy appears to have again been a major contributor to the 76 points amassed by him and his playing partners, David Dawson and Norman Fenwick. Well done lads.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the experience with Edzell proving trunps in not only course condition but also the meal and the service provided.

The 5th Hole off the Whites becomes a less daunting challenge for the shorter hitter
The Club Committee and the Centre have agreed to the request from the Seniors' Section to have an area on the tee side of the pond at the 5th cut short. This makes the hole more playable for those golfers who find it difficult to carry the 135 yards over the water from the Medal Tee.
This decision is a positive for both the Club and the Centre as it shows that all sections of the club are being listened to and recognises that there is often more than one way to play a hole.
Even for the average golfer who may occasionally sky their drive, a penalty drop in short grass is less punishing than trying to thrash the ball out of 6inch rough with 50 yards of water waiting just in front of you, so it's not just the old boys who benefit.
