Away Day Ballater

With only 3 weeks to the away day at Ballater can I ask all those going to make out a cheque for the balance, GBP 25.00 (in most cases) made payable to STRATHMORE GOLF CLUB.

Payments should be in envelopes addressed to Ernie Wastell and left with the office.

We have one tee time (3 players) still available to us so any late comers who want to be considered should make their cheque out for the full amount of GBP 35.00 and I will post a list on the 12th of August listing all those participating and tee times.

Result from Match with Alyth at Strathmore on Friday 17th July

Having lost our previous home match heavily to Arbroath we were looking for a better result against Alyth at home. A 3 all draw was acceptable but again we lost the opportunity in 2 matches on the 18th hole to make it an emphatic win.

The match was played in relatively good weather and in the best of humour, the course was in good condition and the food as always top notch.

Congratulations to the team on the course and both the Greenkeepers and Catering staff.

The team pairings were:

Pairings

1 - John Brand and Bob Greig

2 - David Dawson & George Allan

3 - Peter Tinker & Ernie Wastell

4 - David Johnston & Jack Rough

5 - Jim Davidson & Sandy McGibbon

6 - Ian Scott & David Robinson

All the best.

July Medal & Nick Farr Trophy Results

The July Medal and Nick Farr Trophy attracted the largest turnout of members this year to date with a creditable 33 taking to the course.

With the weather holding up and a strong breeze coming from the north a few exceptional scores hit the headlines and take the spoils.

Within the medal itself Ian Scott won the Medal and lifts the Nick Farr (Lowest Net Trophy) with a net 65 from Dat Duffy, one behind on 66 and Lee Bushby third on a net 67.

Lee Bushby took the lowest gross Nick Farr Trophy with a gross 73, one stroke ahead of Ian Scott on a gross 74.

Congratulations to all three.

18th Hole Dramas v Arbroath

Strathmore Seniors lost their first home match since 2007 when they went down heavily (it would appear) to Arbroath on Tuesday afternoon.

The match result reads Strathmore 1; Arbroath 5 but does not reflect the tightness of the contest with Strathmore succumbing to Arbroath quality play on the 18th hole in 4 of the 5 losses. The other loss came in a match where Ian Scott was forced to go it alone against a strong pairing from Arbroath while Jim Ross and Bob Greig romped home 6 and 5 in our only victory of the day. We look for better fortune in next year's encounter.

As per usual compliments abounded from the visitors on the course and its condition with a special thanks to the greenkeeper and staff and the quality of the centres kitchen and service.

Although it was again a fight to get a team together I am quite sure that those who competed enjoyed the day.
