Thursday 21st Feb Results

What should have been 9 x 3 ball Texas Scrambles ended up as 3 x 3 balls and 3x 4 balls as 1 player cancelled, two failed to show and one group pulled out after 15 holes. As expected the honours went to one of the 4 balls who came in with a net 59 in what can only be described as incredibly difficult conditions.

Winning team : Rob Kidd; Mel Kidd; Peter Barnett and Alex Sutherland

Results from 14th Feb 2008

1st - Jeff Lonsdale ( 41pts)
2nd - Tom Bennett (39pts)

For the first time this year the Summer Greens were in play and a last minute decision was taken to switch to these.

Despite playing off of the winter tees 3 of the seniors bettered their handicaps and will be cut accordingly for next week's competition.

Jeff Lonsdale is cut from 24 to 21; Tom Bennett from 28 to 26 and Jim Ross from 11 to 10.

As a result of the widespread disappointment shown before tee off by those wanting to play a TEXAS SCRAMBLE this week we shall adopt this format next week.

Tee off will be knocked back to 9.45am to allow the groundstaff to make a more timely decision on summer greens instead of the 9.30am start this week.

White and Yellow Tees

There has been some degree of consternation expressed as a result of the decision to play the Gents Seniors' Medals from the white tees rather than the yellows as in previous years.

The decision to go ahead with this change has only been taken after a great deal of thought. It is designed to accomodate the desires of all members of the seniors and hopefully encourage some of those who do not join us for our Thursday competitions to do so, at least on one occasion each month.

From 2007 onwards it has been the Seniors' Section intention that all singles events will be taken as counting towards the handicapping and maintenance of members' handicaps, not just the monthly medal. From 2008 we intend to play 3 counting events each month, one medal (from the WHITE tees) and two Stablefords ( from the yellow tees), this accomodates everyone's playing aspirations and adds variety to the weekly outing, something which I am sure all of us can appreciate.

GENTS - SENIOR SECTION

In addition to the regular Gents Section Strathmore has an active Seniors section for golfers over 50 years of age. This group meets every Thursday throughout the year, course and weather permitting with the first Thursday in each month from April to October set aside for the Monthly Medal. Intervening Thursdays are occupied with Stableford competitions and the odd foursome, four ball and Texas Scramble.

The Tinker Trophy, played on the last Thursday in May adds that additional challenge with only 3 clubs plus a putter in your bag and to complete our programme we have two events involving the fairer sex, in March (The T. Findlay Mixed Texas Scramble) and in August (SENIORS v LADIES).

Outwith the internal club meetings we play 6 or 7 matches each year against other clubs in the area with home and away fixtures spread over the April to September period. All seniors who wish to represent the club are invited to put their names forward when the sheets go up, normally about one month ahead of the Matches to be played, and every effort will be made to include all comers.

The section currently numbers about 50, is growing every year and during the summer season can normally count on about 40 participants for each meeting.

STRATHMORE SENIORS - SUMMER COMPETITIONS

As in 2007 all Seniors’ singles events played on a Thursday will be considered as COUNTING for handicapping purposes, whether MEDAL or STABLEFORD.

There are two changes from 2007 being introduced this year.

In line with all other Gent’s Section Competitions of a ‘counting’ nature there will be an entry fee of GBP1.50. This sum will be split GBP1.00 in prize money and 50p towards the administrative costs of the club and the engraving of Strathmore Seniors’ trophies. Until 2007 this cost was borne for the Seniors by the Gents.
- The monthly medal competitions will be played from the MEDAL TEES (WHITE) with the exception of the July Medal/Nick Farr Trophy which will continue to be played from the Yellow Tees.

All other singles competitions will be played from the YELLOW TEES.
All seniors are encouraged to support both Medal and Other tournaments, accepting the challenges that the different tee positions offer.
