Results Thursday 16 September

A good turnout for this penultimate counting Stableford on a rather blustery day. With the wind coming from the north west some of the up hill par 4s became a little longer and scoring a little bit more difficult.

Of the total contingent of 25 golfers only one, Alex Sutherland, managed to get more than 36 points with 3 others on 36 so once the cards are entered you feel that the CSS for the day is going to be higher than the standard 69.

In the first Division first place went to Ron Haynes on 36 with a very strong back nine. Second was Ian Scott, also with 36 points.

These two gentlemen cleaned up on the twos also with 1 a piece.

Alex Sutherland took the first place in the Second Division with Ian Mollison second on 36 points.

Congratulations to all on what was a very difficult day, thankfully it remained dry.

The tee times for Thursday's Counting Stableford competition were:-

9.00 Ron Haynes, Garry Stewart, Graham Bullock

9.07 Jack Rough, Eric Stuart, Jim Donnelly

9.15 Rob Kidd, David Robinson, Jim Davidson

9.22 Ian Strachan, John MacFarlane, Pat Duffy

9.30 Ernie Wastell, Ian Scott, John Brand

9.37 Brian Ruffhead, Harry Driscoll, Ian Mollison

9.45 Gordon Ewing, Gilmour Ivey, Sandy McGibbon

9.52 Alex Sutherland, Sandy Robertson, Joe McGeoghegan, Ron Adam

Match v Grange Friday 10th at Strathmore - result

The match started in slightly damp and overcast conditions but it was not long before the rain stopped and then the cloud cleared to allow most of the match to be played in dry, bright conditions.

The Grange Team provided us with a stiff test and at one point looked as if they would inflict our first home defeat for more than two years. Matches 5 and 6 came home strong however and we finished the day with a 3 all draw which left everyone in good spirits.

Well done to all those who participated for Strathmore and again many thanks to the Greenkeeping staff for the excellent condition of the course and the centre for the service both before and after the match.

The team that played Grange on Friday 10th September was:-

Ernie Wastell & John MacFarlane

Dave Johnston & Russell Peacock

John Brand & Ian Scott

David Robinson & Jim Davidson

Eric Gray & Ken MacLeod

Sandy Robertson & Brian Moore
