On a beautiful day with the course in top condition 'Silly Season' came to Strathmore.
With a rather disappointing field of only 15 for the first time in a long time not one golfer shot under their handicap.
Ken MacLeod took the medal with a net 74 with Ernie Wastell second on a net 76 and Pat Duffy third on 78. The rest of the field were spread over the range of 79 to 87 with a couple of NRs to boot. Everyone appeared to enjoy the day but there was obviously something in the air.
The tee times for Thursday's medal were:
9.00 Alan Morrison, Jack Rough
9.07 George Allan, Ernie Wastell
9.15 Jim Davidson, Ken MacLeod, Pat Duffy
9.22 David Johnston, Ron Haynes, Chris Brand
9.30 Brian Moore, John Brand
9.37 Malcolm Stewart, Alex Sutherland, Jeff Lonsdale

Result - 26 August v Ladies
After a run of 10 consecutive victories to the Senior Gentlemen the Ladies managed to romp home with a 6.5 to 3.5 victory (albeit after handicappping rules were severely skewed in their favour, ignoring CONGU rules for general doubles match play but incorporating them where this favoured the Ladies).
Despite this 3 of the gents' teams secured victory and one halved, normally where handicaps were relatively close. An in between formula will have to be agreed upon next year to keep the match competitive, probably dropping the CONGU element all together.
Despite the weather, which turned nasty somewhere in the back nine for all teams, everyone appeared reasonably happy with the day and we look forward to next year's event to see if another little tweak of the handicapping can make the event even more competitive.

Results from Thornton
The weather gods took note for our ounting to Thornton and blessed us with an almost shower free round of golf (it rained lightly for about 2minutes) and even a dry get away after the meal. The course was in great condition but played long as a result of the over night rain.
Being a tree lined course all wayward drives were punished heavily and as a result only one of our twenty four golfers shone in the sun. Sandy McGibbon came in with the best gross score on 80, net 67 and took the Ian Mollison trophy for the golfer of the day award. Needless to say Sandy's stableford points (38) were also the highest of the day but, following golfing etiquette the best stableford prize, the Mike Dower Bowl was awarded to Dave Kerr with 30 points. While the award to Sandy was one of many over the lafst few years this was Dave's first trophy so congratulations to Dave on his maiden win.
The Team Stableford points also went to Sandy's team with 71 points from the best two points scores on each hole so again congratulations to Sandy, Jim (Davidson)and Robb (Kidd).
There were no two's and we had a refund of GBP 24.00 from Thornton Golf Club due to the meal being cheaper than recorded so GBP 43.02 , the excess collected for the day will now be sent off to Help for Heroes as poposed and agreed at the end of the day.
In all everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day, despite the golf in some cases so here's hoping we can get a bigger band together for next year's outing.

Results from Thursday 12 August
Ian Scott took the 1st Division with 38 points from Pat Duffy on 36pts with the rest trailing. John Brand scored an exceptional 41 points (to win the second division by 9clear points) amid clamours for a handicap review. His round of 85 equated to a net 65 which was even more remarkable when the inclement weather conditions for part of the round are taken into account.
Ian Scott, with a 2 at the 13th cleaned up the 2s competition as the only 2 of the day.
Well done to both of them.
Tee Times were:
9.00 George Allan; Garry Stewart
9.07 Eric Gray; John Brand; Bob Greig

9.30 Len Scott; Alex Sutherland; Gordon Wood
9.37 Ron Haynes; Brian Ruffhead; Gordon Ewen

Home Match v Aberfeldy
Strathmore Seniors continue their recent winning streak with a 4 - 2 home victory over Aberfeldy. A convincing victory on paper but hard fought on the course, and always in a good humour. Apart from a couple of short and light showers the weather was fine and all came home with blue skies. The course was in fine condition despite the heavy rain in the morning and the day was rounded off with a fine meal in the club house.
Well done to the Strathmore team members, the centre staff and the green keepers for a course that continues to pull in the acolades from visiting golfers, and many thanks to the Aberfeldy team for their visit and company for the day.
The pairings were:
Jim Dunnett & Ernie Wastell
Ian Scott & John Brand
Peter Tinker & Eric Gray
Sandy Robertson & Ron Haynes
George Allan & Jim Davidson
Bob Greig & Jack Rough
