Sunday's match v the Strathmore Gents was a 4 x 4ball event with reduced teams of 8 on each side. The Sunset Challenge was originally set up as a 'Ryder Cup Type' competition with 4 ball better ball; foursomes and Singles over 3 Monday evenings in June 2004.
On the first and only encounter before this year the Seniors won the glory. Sad to say on this, the second and much reduced encounter, the Gents Section took the glory with a 4-0 whitewash, the majority of matches ending on the 17th hole and one on the 16th.
Needless to say there was a fair deal of banter and friendly agro between the teams as they battled their way round the course.
Chancer Of The Evening Award goes to Eric Gray whose ball rattled the flag and dropped dead from 60 yards on the eleventh and then bettered it on the 12th,chipping in from off the green to snatch a net birdie win after visiting the woods with his third shot.
Great fun and good entertainment but we will be looking for revenge next year when hopefully both teams can garner a full team of twelve for what should become an annual encounter.
The Seniors Team was:
Ernie Wastell & Jim Davidson
Sandy McGibbon & Jim Ross
Ron Haynes & David Robinson
George Allan & Alan Morrison.

Results from Aberfeldy
On a hot sultry day with one real soaking and a couple of other calls to brollies we were well and truly thrashed with only Jim Ross and John Brand managing a half to avoid a whitewash.
A heavy defeat is not altogether enjoyable but the match was played as always in good spirit and hospitality was first rate.
The return is in early August.

Away Match Monday 22nd June 2009
Our next away match is now looming against Aberfeldy on Monday and we still do not have a full team.
The object is to get 10 names on the board by end of play Thursday, we only have 6 plus one provisional at this time. If you have already played Aberfeldy that strengthens the team, if you have not, then surely a round on a new course for the price of your meal is an offer to be snapped up.

Seniors Away Day - 18th August 2009 - Ballater
I want to firm up with Ballater on the tee times we require for this outing so can I ask all of those who want to play on the day (it's a Tuesday) to put their names on the list at the clubhouse and pay their GBP10 deposit to the office, either by cheque or cash in an envelope addressed to ERNIE WASTELL by the end of June.
For those who have written their names on the list but not yet paid their deposit could you please do so now.
All the best

Results for Thursday 11th June
Pat Duffy won the event with 37 pts on a count back from Garry Stewart (37pts), with Gordon Ewen 3rd on 36pts.
Both Pat and Garry will be pleased to know that their efforts have resulted in a 1 stroke reduction in their respective handicaps.
Well done
The conditions were changeable at the start with a South Westerly breeze making it almost feel like summer. A change in the wind direction to North Westerly changed summer to spring until the sun forced its way through in late morning. The course itself played long as a result of the downpour that hit the region for several hours overnight.
Thursday's Counting Stableford tee times were:-
9.00 Jack Rough; Mel Kidd
9.07 George Dolby; Jim Donnelly; Graham Bullock
9.15 Ken MacLeod; John MacFarlane; Graeme Hunter

Result from Match v Royal Perth on 9th June
Congratulations to our depleted team which achieved a first away result in the Seniors' history. A hard won draw (2.5/2.5)was just reward in an afternoon that saw only one short, heavy downpour of rain followed by sun.
The gentlemen of Perth were perfect hosts and the course was in very good condition, albeit that the greens were much slower than we have grown accustomed to playing at Strathmore.
NEXT MATCH - V ABERFELDY on Monday the 22nd with a 1.00pm tee off. Get your name down and lets hope for a full contingent.
The pairings for the match with Royal Perth on Tuesday, 9th of June were:-

2) Bob Greig & Ron Haynes
3) David Robinson & David Johnston
4) Peter Tinker & George Allan
5) George Dolby & Jack Rough.
