Results from June Medal

The June Medal was played in almost perfect conditions on what has now become a stern test of golf from the white tees.

Jim Dunnett, with a net 73 took the medal and has had his handicap cut to 8.4 for his efforts.Ian Scott took second place with a net 75. In the second category Eric Gray, with a better back nine took first place with a net 74 from Tam Bennet. Both gentlemen have had their handicaps reduced by one due to clause 19, Stableford Adjusted Handicap.

Congratulations to all four players. The CSS for the day was 74.

Unfortunately numbers for the second month in a row for the medal were disappointingly low at only 21, let's hope that a greater effort will be made for the remainder of the season by all our members.

Home Match v Royal Perth

After all the struggle to put together a team for this match we ended up one player short on the day.

Again when confronted by adversity Strathmore seniors pulled through and our single player managed a draw in his match to give us a 2.5/2.5 result against a very strong Perth side which incorporated our old friend Lee Bushby.

This evened out with our away draw last year at North inch so overall everyone went home happy.

Our next match is against Aberfeldy (away) on the 21st of June and all those interested are requested to put their names on the list which has been up since last Thursday, as has the sheet for the Sunset Challenge against Strathmore Gents (Sunday 27th of June. Tee off 16.30).

A minor shower or two did not deter the field with some good cards handed in, however the Tinker Trophy this year will have the name Gilmour Ivey inscribed, his nett 66 bested a nett 67 by Gordon Ewan which included a back nine of scratch 35.

Gilmour is one of our younger seniors and this is his first competition win......congratulations.

After a certain amount of pleading and begging we have a full quota for our match on Tuesday 25th of May at Monifieth against the Grange (Dundee).

Results from Thursday 20th May

The fine weather brought our golfers out in numbers and produced some fine golf into the bargain with 12 players of the 34 equalling or bettering 36 points.

First amongst equals was Ian Scott with a magnificent gross 72, net 63 which earned him 43 points and a clear 3 point lead over the following pack. Ian's handicap, for his efforts, goes from 9 to 8.1. Congratulations.

Sandy McGibbon came in second in the 1st Division with 40 points and sees his handicap reduce for the second counting competition in a raw, he is now off of 13.

In the 2nd Division John Brand led the way with 40 points with John John Macfarlane taking 2nd place on 39 points. Both have handicap reductions from 22 to 21.

For the second time in a row we have had a bottle of whisky sitting on the bar thanks this time to Tam Bennet and his ACE at the 6th hole.

Well done to all of you and the rest of the field who I am sure thoroughly enjoyed their rounds and the heat of the sun on their backs.

Away Day on August 17th - Thornton Golf Club

The list has been put on the board for the Away Day at Thornton Golf Club, Fife on the 17th of August.

All those interested should insert their names and pay a deposit of GBP 10.00 in an envelope - SENIORS AWAY DAY 2010, FAO Ernie Wastell. This to be handed in to the shop.

AS per last year for security reasons we would prefer that the deposit is paid by crossed cheque made out to STRATHMORE GOLF CLUB.
