Result from Match v Murrayshall, Tuesday 4th May

The team for our first home match of the season on Tuesday was as follows:-

Match 1 - John Brand; Ian Scott

Match 2 Sandy Robertson; Ron Haynes

Match 3 Peter Tinker; Eric Gray

Match 4 Alex Sutherland; Ernie Wastell

Match 5 Sandy McGibbon

Match 6 Pat Duffy; John Stanley

The first of our home matches started with a resounding success (5 Matches for ; 1 against) despite the fact that we had to face a full strength Murrayshall with only 11 players. It should also be noted that the match we lost was not where Sandy was on his own.

On a day when rain threatened on more than one occasion we got home dry but a bit windswept from the cold Northerly Wind.

A good time was had by all and our compliments go out not only to the team members but also to the greenkeeper and his staff for the fantastic condition of the course so early on in the season and the centre's kitchen and restuarant for a great meal and service.

Start of a New Season

SPRING HAS SPRUNG
THE GRASS HAS (not quite)GRISS(yet)
Strathmore's where the action is.

Corny I know but just a little intro to the new Seniors' Season at Strathmore.

The season will start on the 1st of April with the April Medal followed by two more counting competions, a Texas Scramble and two away matches against Alyth and Glenisla before the month is over.

Name Sheets are up for both the Singles and Doubles knock out competions, entry closes on the 2nd of April, as are the sheets for those wanting to participate in the opening matches against other clubs.

The away day is now fixed for Thornton Golf Club in Fife for the 17th of August with an all in cost of GBP 35 per head, including the sweep.

We are hoping for a good season after such a hard winter and hope that all of our Thursday competitions, knock out competitions, away day and Matches will be fully supported and enjoyed.

All the best

Seniors' Away Day 2010

Another Year, another golf calendar.

Although we are still some 6 months away from the Away Day in August we still have to come to a decision as to where we want to play, and quickly.

I have contacted 6 golf clubs/centres (7 courses) with varying degrees of success and costs.

Four of the six locations have answered me and two have not, even fter a week of waiting.

The two non respondents are : Drumoig and Whitemoss.

Of those that have replied Ladybank at GBP 45.9 per round for the golf alone has been discarded. This leaves us with 3 venues/4 courses to choose from.

Thornton Golf Club is the most attractive offer with a green fee of GBP 25.00 plus a discount of one free round for every eighth player. i.e. If we have 24 players exactly we have a discount of 12.5% on the golf. If we have 31 players we have a discount of almost 10%. The food works out at GBP11.50 so assuming a turnout of at least 24, but less than 32 we have an all in cost of GBP 33.40 to GBP34.10 each.

I understand that the Strathmore Ladies have played this course and were very positive about it.

Kinross Golf Courses

An all in price list has been provided for the package requested for both course.

12/24 golfers the Bruce GBP 38.50; The Montgomery GBP 43.50
25/36 golfers GBP 36.50; GBP 41.50

Feed back on these courses less than glowing.

Balbirnie

30 or less GBP 30.00 plus GBP 11.00 for refreshments = GBP 41.00

30+1 GBP 5.00 discount on the golf as a 'Seniors Discount' i.e GBP 36.00 for the day.

The only other difference with Balbirnie is that whereas the other clubs above can provide us with our preferred tee off schedule starting at 10.30 am, Balbirnie would be from 10.45am onwards, this due to bookings already made by other parties.

Please let me have your preference by end of play on Thursday the 25th of February by use of one of the brown envelopes and a note left at the shop for Ernie Wastell- Seniors Away Day 2010

All the best.

End of year Texas Scramble

39 brave Seniors Texas Scrambled their way round the course, many finishing in a blizzard. A great day was had by all, in spite of the conditions. The winners, (whose handicaps will be reported to the committee) were:

1st (on countback) – with net 38 : George Allan, David Robinson, Jack Duncan

2nd – also with 38: Jim Dunnett, Garry Stewart, Malcolm Stewart.

Well done !

After play, we all enjoyed a splendid Christmas lunch and our thanks and appreciation must go to Ernie Wastell, our leader, for all the excellent work he has done throughout the year for the “Old Timers”.

Merry Christmas and a Successful Golfing New Year.

Year End Lunch & Texas Scramble REVISED

With less than 24 hours to first tee the final line up for tomorrow's 12 hole Texas Scramble is as shown below. With three late call offs and only two late entries our numbers are cut from 42 to 41 and necessitate the introduction of two 4 ball groupings at the tail of the tees.

As usual we are off two tees and will play the first 12 holes of the course only. For the fifth hole we will all tee off from the mat to the right hand side of the tee, no matter what colour the cones placed there.

Tee Times and group handicaps are:

Tee 1:

10.00 Sandy Robertson; Ian Mollison; Jack Gillison (6)

10.07 Graeme Hunter; Ernie Wastell; Parker Crockart (5)

10.15 Jim Davidson; Ian McCouig; John Brand (6)

10.22 Jack Rough; David Dawson; Rob Kidd (6)

10.30 George Allan; David Robinson; Jack Duncan (6)

10.37 Russell Peacock; Harry Driscoll; Jim Donnelly (7)

10.45 Gordon Ewen; Ron Haynes; Jeff Lonsdale (5)

Tee 10

10.22 Peter Tinker; Ian Strachan; Gerry Kennedy (6)

10.30 Jim Dunnett; Garry Stewart; Malcolm Stewart (6)

10.37 George Dolby; Gordon Wood; Tam Bennet (6)

10.45 Alan Morrison; Pat Duffy; Brian Ruffhead (7)

10.52 Ian Scott; Alex Sutherland; John Crombie; Brian Moore (5)

11.00 Peter Rainbird; Ken MacLeod; David Kerr; Tony Sive (5)

EVERY PLAYER MUST HAVE 2 COUNTING DRIVES

Target time for the 12 hole round is approximately 2 hours for 3 balls and 2hours 20mins for the 4 balls. The target remains that we sit down to eat as a group by 1.45.

The following players/diners have yet to pay their GBP 15.00 for the meal and sweep:

Sandy Robertson; Ian Strachan; Rob Kidd and Jack Duncan.

The above golfers should try and arrive early and pay their dues to Ernie Wastell before 9.45 to avoid mucking about with money after the rounds have been completed.

Prize for the winning team - GBP 30.00 (to be divided amongst team members); 2nd team GBP 15.00.

All the best and see you there.
