Thursday's medal incorporating the Nick Farr Trophy was played in perfect conditions and this was reflected in the scores recorded.

The medal goes to Sandy McGibbon (19) who shot a net 63 and he wins the Nick Farr Decanter for lowest net score and takes the spoils from the 2nd Division Sweep. Well done Sandy.

The lowest gross score, also from the 2nd group out, was recorded by Graeme Hunter(9) who shot a gross 75. To him the Nick Farr Claret Jug and our congratulations on a fine round.

First Division Sweep goes to Bob Greig on a countback with a Net 65 and second to George Dolby. Congratulations to you both and commiserations to Jim Ross who was 3rd in the trio of 65's.

Team & Result v Aberfeldy - 7th August

The weather broke for us on the day and the course, after almost 24 hours of constant rain was in great condition, compliments to the Head Greenkeeper and his staff.

Aberfeldy fielded a reasonably strong team and got off to a flying start with victories in the first two matches but that was the end of their glory with all remaining matches going the way of Strathmore and a well merited 4 - 2 victory.

The final home pairings were as below:

Return Matches in August

As with Tradition those who played in the first leg have preference in team selection for the return, however, as we also know there are call offs and reserves are always needed.

If you want to, and are able to play on the dates shown below either tick your name on the club notice board posting (available Monday) if you represented Strathmore in the first leg or score it out if you are not available to play. If you did not play in the first leg but want to play in the return write your name in the reserves list.

In the case of the rescheduled match with Alyth for 18th August the players listed are those selected for the original date of the return fixture on the 18th of July.

The 5th Hole off the Whites becomes a less daunting challenge for the shorter hitter

The Club Committee and the Centre have agreed to the request from the Seniors' Section to have an area on the tee side of the pond at the 5th cut short. This makes the hole more playable for those golfers who find it difficult to carry the 135 yards over the water from the Medal Tee.

This decision is a positive for both the Club and the Centre as it shows that all sections of the club are being listened to and recognises that there is often more than one way to play a hole.

Even for the average golfer who may occasionally sky their drive, a penalty drop in short grass is less punishing than trying to thrash the ball out of 6inch rough with 50 yards of water waiting just in front of you, so it's not just the old boys who benefit.
